Tradescantia fluminensis ‘Albovittata’, also known as Inch Plant, is a fast-growing evergreen trailing houseplant. Native to South America (from Brazil to northern Argentina), it forms an attractive groundcover or a cascading display in hanging baskets. The fleshy, oval leaves are green with white stripes and have a purple underside. Foliage typically grows up to 15 cm high and can spread over 60 cm or more if allowed. Although it may flower in its native habitat, indoor blooms are rare and the plant is mainly valued for its striking foliage. Growing Conditions: Temperature: Suitable for areas comparable to UK hardiness H1B–H2 (similar to USDA Zones 9–12). Not frost-hardy – keep indoors or in a heated greenhouse over winter. Light: Prefers bright, filtered light. Tolerates shade but avoid prolonged direct afternoon sun which may scorch the leaves.
